Unveiling Essence Through Altered Perception

A wearable apparatus that transforms sight through layers, exploring perception, materiality, and the boundaries of understanding.

Axis

n. a line about which a body rotates,
the body of work’s conceptual anchor

This project reimagines sight as more than an optical function, shifting focus to the tactile and intrinsic qualities of experience. By layering opacity, the apparatus challenges our reliance on vision and unveils a profound connection to material essence and human understanding.

Through veils of diminishing clarity, the mask reveals a truth unseen—where the absence of vision sharpens the intimacy of knowing, and the essence of being emerges from the shadowed folds of obscurity.

Articulation

n. a expression
the shaping of form

Inspired by narratives of sight loss and Aristotle’s concept of essence, the apparatus incorporates fabrics of varying opacities. Gradual layering obscures vision while enhancing tactile understanding. Crafted through sewing, papier-mâché, and oil-treated papers, the apparatus functions as a transformative exploration of perception and material interplay, blending analog techniques with conceptual depth.
